Rob Abell climbing the National 3 Peaks for Bamboozle
Rob was one of five walkers to complete this fantastic feat in a little over 24 hours. The weather was against us but then again we had to go to Scotland where it can rain, and it did!
Our fantastic support team, Gordon & Abi got us to Fort William on the Saturday, we stayed over in a lovely 70s time-warp hotel and the 24 hour clock started ticking at 5pm on the Sunday afternoon as we set off from the Glen Nevis youth hostel in the rain. We started with the highest mountain in the British Isles, the weather warnings were just shy of red which I have to say was pretty accurate, 50-60mph gusts, horizontal freezing rain, or was it sleet? snow and ice to across on top but we made it to the top. Darkness moved in fast a little after 10pm and the new head torches were put to good use. Descending through the cloud line in the blackness as a novice was pretty scary feat. Soaked through and pouring water out of your boots put a kind strange sense of accomplishment on your face. Unfortunately we had blown the time allowance and it seemed unlikely we would do it all in 24 hours.
We climbed Scafell Pike from Wastwater at 6am in the dry but the low slung cloud line prevented any chance of a view. The tired limbs all climbed back into the minibus to get to Snowdon without delay. It was pretty gloomy and wet when we started the last climb just before 6pm with little chance of getting down before dark so the head torches were switched on at around 10pm, we got back at around 11:15pm to be greeted by the Bamboozle team who had driven over from Leicester. That was delightful and after a glass of bubbly standing outside the public toilets, we got packed up and headed for home.
The numbers? By my reckoning we walked over 22 miles on very challenging terrain, over 15 hours moving time and ascended 9,500ft. Proud? Yes of course we all are, and we know we will have raised a good sum of money to help deliver the multi sensory performances that The Bamboozle Theatre Company deliver across the country, and further afield.
We are all immensely proud of our achievement, as much as we are of our business and if we can help you with Wills Trusts Power of Attorney or Probate, please do not hesitate to get in touch here.
